4 Signs That Your Doctor Might Not Be Right For You

Collaborative Post

The older you get, the more important it becomes to have a good doctor that you know for a fact cares about you. A doctor that will make an effort and will work hard to help you. Not every doctor out there is like that, but when you get one, there’s no doubt about it that you’re going to want to keep them close. So, the signs are easy when it comes to finding a good doctor.

With a good doctor, you automatically feel comfortable with them. Sadly the exact opposite for a less good doctor. Not every doctor is good, and the older you get, the more important it becomes to leave a less helpful doctor and search for a better one. So, here are some signs that you may have a bad doctor.

There’s Poor Communication

Communication is more than just handing out Patient Information Leaflet NHS, to patients. It’s actual conversations, it’s discussions, it’s answering questions. There’s a lot of work that goes into all of this. In general, effective communication is fundamental in healthcare. If you find that your doctor doesn’t listen attentively to your concerns, dismisses your questions, or rushes through appointments without addressing your worries, it may be a sign of a communication breakdown. If you feel like you have to persist yet still not getting answers, then it’s time to find a more compatible doctor.

You Feel Like You’re Being Disrespected

You know your body better than anyone else does. You know it, you know how you’re feeling, and you go to the doctor for a professional opinion – not to be told you’re right or wrong about how you feel. Your doctor should respect your input and include you in decisions about your healthcare. If you feel your opinions and preferences are consistently disregarded, it can lead to a lack of trust and frustration. It might even lead to a decline in your health because you’re not getting the care you need.

Is It Hard to Get Appointments?

Sometimes, this is the fault of the GP practice, but if there is a lack of doctors in your area, then they may not be able to be blamed too much. But at the same time, it’s still going to be an issue if you and plenty of other people are just flat-out struggling to even get appointments.

So, consistently struggling to secure appointments with your doctor can be a sign of overbooking or a lack of availability. Delays in receiving care can impact your health outcomes negatively. Sometimes, seeing another doctor could immediately fix the issue, but just remember, if there is a lack of GPs in your area, then no matter who you choose, this will still be an issue.

Disregarding Your Medical History

This is probably one of the biggest red flags of them all: the fact that your GP is full-on just ignoring what you’re going through and your entire medical history. They have it on file, they have access to it, and they can see it when they choose to see it. They need to have a comprehensive understanding of all of it, and it’s a major issue if they don’t.
