What is Vascular Dementia and how to spot the early symptoms

Collaborative Post

Vascular Dementia is a form of Dementia and it occurs due to the blood vessels deep within the brain narrowing, restricting the ease of blood flow to the brain. This can happen through a stroke or Transient Ischaemic Attacks – more commonly known as ‘TIAs’ or ‘mini strokes’.

Regrettably, it is estimated to affect around 150,000 adults in the UK, and is more prominent in older adults.

After the age of 65, the likelihood of developing Vascular Dementia or Alzheimer’s doubles every 5 years, with Dementia as a whole currently estimated to affect roughly 850,000 UK adults.

The progression rate of Vascular Dementia differs for everyone. It is therefore very important for you to learn and understand what the different stages entail, and the common symptoms which follow.
