Streetwear trends for 2025 – What to be looking out for
Collaborative Post
As we rush closer to 2025, it can feel a bit daunting trying to stay up to date with the latest streetwear trends.
There are so many changes and sub-categories within the general niche that it’s practically a full-time job even trying to keep up, but you can absolutely manage with just the main concepts.
From the increasing popularity of gorpcore to retro reinventions, these are just a few of the main trends that you should be looking out for.
Gorpcore
Gorpcore is a streetwear trend that shot into popularity sometime early during the COVID-19 pandemic. Essentially, it consists of the adoption of highly technical hiking, climbing, skiing and outdoor gear into urban streetwear attires.
This includes weatherproof jackets and trousers featuring fabrics like Gore-Tex, climbing and trail running shoes, and high-tech backpacks and bags with a range of pockets and additional features.
Other brands have been forced to adapt, to keep up with traditionally niche markets that have suddenly found themselves hitting the mainstream.
Sustainability
Another core trend that has solidified itself over the past decade or so is that of sustainability. It’s now a key concern of a large portion of consumers, especially in the streetwear niche.
When buying clothing in bulk from suppliers such as Screen Textiles, it’s worth looking at the sustainability credentials of any brands you’re considering stocking.
From the environmental effects of dyes and fabrics, to fair labour practices in the Global South, these aren’t issues that you can afford to turn a blind eye to.
Comfort
Long gone are the days when people thought you had to suffer for your fashion needs. While comfort has always been a central component of streetwear trends, if anything, it’s become even more important to the general niche.
Whether that’s people turning towards cushioned running shoes that you can walk around in all day, or loose, technical t-shirts that you barely notice you’re wearing, comfort is worth keeping in mind when thinking about any kind of approach to streetwear design.
Retro
Streetwear trends aren’t only being driven by innovation. They’re also increasingly being driven by keeping one eye on the past and rediscovering old fashion movements.
Whether by charity shopping or seeking out specific, vintage designer stores with carefully designed displays, streetwear aficionados are looking back to the early noughties, 90s, 80s, and even in some cases further back to the beginning of the 20th century for an inspired approach to their own personal styles.
Seen especially in fashion crews such as those in Soho in London, these glances backwards to bygone eras result in wonderful, eclectic styles that are bound to turn the heads of people all around.
There are so many different trends constantly going in and out of fashion nowadays that it doesn’t really matter if you follow one to the T. In fact, in most cases it’s best to try to create something slightly new, but to do this, it definitely helps to have an overview of what’s currently successful in the popular imagination.
