Retiring? Keep Yourself Busy With These Tips

Collaborative Post

There are big congratulations to be heard when you retire. You’ve made it: you’ve spent your life in a business or two, you’ve got the watch and now you are looking at years ahead with unlimited free time. You finally get to choose what you want to do and do as you please. The thing is, it’s not always easy to get the most from your retirement. You know you want to have freedom and space, but that doesn’t make it easy to choose what to do with your life. In fact, it can often feel much harder to decide what you want to do because you don’t have anything running your day anymore.

You have no more alarms for work, and you don’t have any meetings to go to. You might be very lucky to be set financially, and if that’s the case, you’re going to have an even bigger decision on your hands. Embracing retirement as a new phase in life is important. The faster you embrace this newfound freedom, the better. You now get to decide what you want to do and the things that you want to enjoy – it’s all up to you now. You can develop the attitude that you are a lucky one to be in a fortunate position, and that there are opportunities to be had right now in your life. So much of life is spent doing things you have to do more than the things that you want to do. Now is the time to do the things you want – here are some of those things that you can do to enjoy the rest of your life!

Travel

The pandemic has put paid for much of travel around the world, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t plan for travelling. Machu Picchu, travelling the country in which you live – it’s all there for you. You can book and plan a trip for later on if you can’t travel because of COVID. In the meantime, investing in a caravan or an RV and going around the country camping is one of the best ways to travel. You could even do day trips, weekenders, climb mountains and see beaches you always put off seeing.

Start a business

If you love to bake or knit, handcraft or create, you can start your own business. You don’t have to be young and green to start a business, not when you could start your own baking or clothing business from home and sell online. You can really get out and see the opportunities to make a business out of a hobby you’ve had for years. Starting a business is not easy, but it can be everything you need to keep you busy.

Get out of your comfort zone

Have you spent years in the same routines? Why not break out of those comfort zones and do something new? Master a foreign language or get a degree, up your computer skills and learn something you always wanted to learn. Take you time with it; you need to learn what’s going to feel good for you in the years going forward. It’ll be different, but that’s the point.

Learn a new hobby

We talked about learning something new, but you could really have the time to learn a brand new hobby. Think ceramics, needlepoint, an instrument, singing or more. There are a ton of different hobbies you can choose from and learn, and you can then ensure that you are kept busy with new classes.

Go through your things

You have likely got years and years of built up clutter, and if you want to have something to do, use your time to clear through it all and organise it. You might even choose to sell things you no longer need just so that you can earn a little cash to help you along. Spring cleaning is going to make a big difference to your time and your home.

Volunteer

You have the time now, so maybe you want to give back a little. If that’s the case for you, choose a charity or a local community centre and give back with volunteering. You can really help others doing this, and it’s not a bad thing to want to help.

Write

You had a long and adventurous life. Why not write all about it? Even if you’re the only one to ever read the journals you write, it’s important you’re remembered by someone.
