Gifts for grandparents 2018 – travel and holidays
By Kathy Lawrence
Days out, trips and holidays are a welcome gift for many. Here are just a few ideas. Just one in our series of articles of ideas for older friends and family.
We haven’t experienced them ourselves, but we could be tempted!
If your family are enjoying watching the likes of Timothy West and Prunella Scales travelling the canals of the UK and beyond, they might like this idea. Mersey Ferries is offering a Manchester Ship Canal Cruise voucher for a day out, cruising the 35 miles length of the navigation in celebration of its 125th birthday. No boating skills required! The cruise lasts 6 hours, with snacks and light refreshments available on board. Passengers will then be taken back to the starting point by coach. The voucher costs £44 and cruises must be booked in advance. More information at www.merseyferries.co.uk/giftvouchers.
One Traveller is a family-run tour operator solely dedicated to offering escorted holidays and cruises around the world to mature, single travellers over 50, with no single supplement. The company offers a selection of holidays around the world. Ideas for trips include five days in Cheshire from £850 with visits to the World of Wedgwood, Quarry Bank and the Anderton Boat Lift. The company offers executive travel for coach excursions, four nights’ accommodation in the four-star Crewe Hall Hotel in a double room for sole occupancy, a full buffet breakfast each morning, one lunch, and all evening meals in the hotel. Gift vouchers for this and other trips can be purchased online at www.onetraveller.co.uk/gift-vouchers/ or over the phone: 01760 722011.
How about a city-based trip? In the UK we are lucky to enjoy a wealth of amazing architecture, culture and open spaces within our historical cities. We really like the ideas that Visit Bath suggest for short breaks and days out. There’s an enormous amount to do and see in Bath, from the elegance of the world of Jane Austen to shopping, theatre and restaurants. We’ve been to the Christmas market too, and would thoroughly recommend it. If not Bath, then why not York, Edinburgh or one of our many other national treasures? (Though some are definitely more hilly than others.)
